Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is one of the best known and most common forms of massage.  The Swedish technique combines smooth gliding strokes with kneading, and compression strokes to improve circulation and lymph flow.  Swedish massage uses oils

to allow for less friction against the skin.  Swedish massage deeply relaxes the musculature of the body to encourage the release of physical tensions. Often held in a poor posture.  More intense strokes (sports massage) can be used to break up adhesions in

the muscles and connective tissue, which is common after injury and trauma.  This is the perfect introductory massage if you have not had any previous massage therapy sessions.  It is a serene experience unless you choose to converse with your therapist.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a scientific foot treatment utilizing finger pressure, based on the theory that there are mini maps of the body on the soles of hands and feet.  A steady pressure is applied to specific

points, freeing blockages in the nervous system and improving the energy flow of the body.  Reflexology is an excellent tool to feel better without directly working on the area of pain, yet affecting a response in that area.  Improved circulation and
dissolving the crystals that form on the bottom of the feet helps to eliminate tension and improve the body’s natural healing response.

Infant Massage

Babies love to be touched.  They love to be stroked and cuddled.  The lack of touch can have a very negative effect on the child’s development.  There have been studies that show that infant

massage can actually help to reduce common infant ailments such as colic, constipation, diarrhea, coughs, and irritability.  Also, an infant massage benefits the parents and it may even help some mothers beat the postpartum “blues.”

Aromatherapy Massage

Life can be hectic and stressful.  Understanding the significance of our sense of smell and touch can be an important step in our search for vibrant health.  An aromatherapy massage combines

the physical and emotional affects of the essential oils with an additional touch.  Developed over thousands of years, aromatherapy is the ancient art of using botanical essential oils for the healing and balancing of body, mind and spirit.  Essential oils are aromatic, highly concentrated, non-oily essences

that are extracted from wild or cultivated plants.  Their purpose encompasses both the physical aspects such as sore muscles, arthritis, headaches, etc.  to the emotional aspects of fear, depression, anxiety, etc.

Deep Tissue Bodywork

Refers to a variety of hands-on techniques that focus on restoring the body’s myofascia (connective tissue enveloping the muscles) to its natural, resilient state, allowing freer and easier movement.  Tension, compression or imbalanced distribution of stresses rigidifies this tissue resulting in “knots” , soreness, depletion of energy, and/or restricted movement.  Appropriate pressure and manipulation enables the fascia, and hence the entire body, to regain its innate flexibility and proper functioning.  Although many people feel that their bodies require deep tissue work it ids best to become familiar with the massage before booking a deep tissue session, since having deep tissue work done when the body is not ready, can result in bruising and soreness.

AMMA Massage

AMMA massage is a form of oriental massage that uses a circular digital pressure along the meridians of the body to unblock the blood and energy flow.  It is a very beneficial massage in treating many medical ailments and to rejuvenate the body.  With consistent treatments it has worked very well to promote health and vitality.

Massage Etiquette

During your massage you will always be draped and only the area of the body that is being worked on will be exposed.  We try to keep the room at an even temperature, if you are too cold

please let the therapist know.  It is much easier and greatly appreciated if you maintain good hygiene before coming in for your appointment.  We do have shower facilities if you need them before your appointment.  We look forward to working with you.

Hot Stone Massage

A relaxing & soothing massage that is based in Native American

healing rituals.  Hot stones are used on the body during the massage to increase circulation & heal by proper placement on the chakras.  An incredible experience.

Your Therapist

All Therapists working at Luna Mesa Day Spa are licensed and/or certified in their fields.  Many therapists have gone on to study in certain types of body treatment or massage.  All therapists can answer your questions about which type of treatment is best for you and advise any at home regimens.  It is very important to maintain a proper stretching routines and drink at least 4-5 glasses of water in the hours after your massage to flush out the toxins that have been released into the body.  It is often quite normal after your first or second massage to feel sore the next day or two especially when focusing on trouble spots.  Using a muscle liniment will reduce the soreness.  We hope that you have had a positive experience at Luna Mesa day Spa and if you have any questions about your treatment before or after feel free to ask.
